Messy Church

In case you’re unsure of what it is, Messy Church is just another way of doing church for families, taking place on a weekday after school.

In Whiting Bay for example, the children come straight from school to the church where they have juice and a biscuit before playing some board games. When everyone has arrived, there is a bible story often interactive, and then a children’s worship song. We sometimes use the puppets which the children always love. Half the children then go on to play some running about games while the other half begin various crafts based on the bible story theme. After some time they swop over and at about 5pm we finish, with everyone saying the grace together before having a meal.

Kilmory MC is slightly different. The children come straight from school to the village hall where they enjoy some toast, fruit and juice, with tea or coffee provided for the mums or dads who are with them. There is very often a baking craft which they can take home if they don’t eat it first. The crafts, also based on the bible story come next and is followed by some noisy games. Finally there is the bible story and then home, remembering as they have to in Whiting Bay, to take all their crafts home with them.

In Whiting Bay the children are all school age whereas in Kilmory they are mostly pre-school so there are always parents there which is a good way of getting to know them. We have lots of helpers at Whiting Bay but Annie who leads the Kilmory MC is very often short of people so would appreciate anyone who can come along on a Friday, to help out or just see what’s going on. Similarly, if anyone would like to come along to Whiting Bay which we have on a
Monday, you would be more than welcome. Both are held once a month.
Just ask for the dates if interested.
